Upcoming Projects

Nature Symphony
A BBC commission for the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Arlene Sierra's latest and most substantial symphonic work will receive its world premiere in the 2017-2018 season.

Maya Deren series
Continuing from her successful rescorings of the films Meditation on Violence and Ritual in Transfigured Time for Lontano and the Goldfield Ensemble respectively, Sierra is working on the third in a series of new scores for prestigious ensembles, set to Maya Deren's expressive and surreal films from the 1940's and 50's. New scores are planned the Deren films At Land,  Ensemble for Somnambulists, and Meshes of the Afternoon in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Birds and Insects, Book 2
Sierra is working on a second, companion album to the acclaimed Birds and Insects, Book 1. Using sounds from nature as cellular elements in musical textures, the new collection promises more colour, atmosphere, and virtuosity. Movements include Painted Bunting, Hermit Thrush, Black and White Warbler, Thermometer Cricket and Bobolink.

  Faustine
An opera in development with playwright Lucy Thurber after the novella by Emma Tennant, with support from New York City Opera VOX, ROH2 at Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and Aldeburgh Young Artist Residencies. It is the story of an older woman, Muriel, who sells her soul to the devil for eternal youth because she is in love with her daughter's lover. The project has received support from Center for Contemporary Opera, NY City Opera VOX, New Music USA CAP Performance program, ROH2 at Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and Aldeburgh Young Artist Residencies.
